Stephen King is one of the greatest fiction writers ever, and he talks of doing Peote to get creative or used to. Edgar Allen Poe, no greater writer than him, was an alcholic. Creativity is there regardless.

It's sort of sad today, so much genius and creativity is credited to drugs. Which is not to say that there is no correlation, certainly many innovations and masterpieces and revelations were perhaps shaped by some sort of trip, but there is no substitute for creativity.

Ian Anderson is so funny onstage! I would have loved to see him cut up like that.

'dude', I would rather read cosmosmariner's comments anyday than your misguided and deluded fantasies about a acid fueled Tull performance. And believe me, the generation that grew up with Tull know so much more about rock music than today's generation- it would make your head spin.

I saw Tull numerous times during the seventies. Their shows were routinely two and half hours or longer. No band of the time played so tight on stage as Jethro Tull. Extraodinary musicianship. I saw them play the complete version of "Thick As A Brick" just days before the album was released. Afterwords, Ian said, "Now, for our next number.." and the rest was drowned out by the amazed crowd. Saw the debut "Passion Play" tour; again the complete song performed as just the opening number.

The fact that "dude" is part of your username indicates that you aren't old enough to know what you're talking about re: Jethro Tull.

Sorry to disappoint those who are seeking to credit acid as the catalyst for their performance, but it simply is not true. Everyone new then of Ian Anderson's disdain for drug use. You don't perform with the mastery and brilliance that they did while on drugs. No way. Ian's facial expressions and bounding about were just showmanship. Tull worked their asses off on stage and off. That and talent are the sole reasons for their excellence and longevity.
