freedomlost2007 ::: Favorites 2007-11-20 11:18:51 takotheoktopus- I worked in a home and took care of a woman with alzheimers although then they labeled it dementia. She cried about her family never visiting yet her family did visit and often. I thought that was really heartbreaking. She felt so alone and discarded yet she was not abandoned by her family at all. That was in Wyoming. The worst care has been in the south. __________________________________________________
freedomlost2007 ::: Favorites 2007-11-20 09:42:45 takotheoktopus - Ah, I love old people.I have heard lots of history from quite an eclectic bunch coal miners, gold miners, prostitutes , ship builders...I got to hear about the railroads being built, the gold rush...boom towns and of course the bootlegging stories are endless. I seem to remember a few speak easy and reefer stories as well. __________________________________________________
takotheoktopus ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 23:25:25 I'm truly sorry to here about the poor quality of service down there. Glad to here that you did your part and them some. My Grandpa was the only one in my family that ever understood me well, and I miss him greatly. He would tell me stories about going to a speak easy in the 20's and dancing to jazz and smoking reefer! __________________________________________________
freedomlost2007 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 20:59:05 takotheoktopus - I have worked with the elderly ..as a private sitter here in Florida and as a tech in other States. I would never advise anyone to have a person in a nursing home in the State of Florida unless you can provide a Private Sitter for them. I was sickened by the lack of care I was witness to...and I have to say that I helped many a person not my client because no one else would. __________________________________________________
freedomlost2007 ::: Favorites 2007-11-19 20:55:58 Sisyphus39- It may also be that families are smaller. Remember 2 is the loose rule these days but before birth control there were more people to help take care of Gramma/Pa. My Uncle's took care of their Mother until she passed. No one else lived long enough to be elderly and frail. __________________________________________________
Sisyphus39 ::: Favorites 2007-11-15 15:48:12 This is what happens when people are warehoused. Families may be to blame, but after a long day's work just to keep your nose above water, it's difficult to visit often. This "mobile society" has lost much for families! I still want to say, "It's the economy, Stupid!" __________________________________________________
takotheoktopus ::: Favorites 2007-11-15 05:53:31 I should mention that it's still difficult even for those that do visit enough to check the quality of care, since it's quite possible that the minute you leave the facade could come right off. __________________________________________________
takotheoktopus ::: Favorites 2007-11-15 05:50:06 That sucks! My grandfather managed to stay out of nursing homes till he was in his late 90's! Soon as it became too difficult for him to depend on himself we helped him find a well respected home that took great care of him. He lived to be 103 years old! The problem is not enough family members care about their elders to make sure things like this never happen. __________________________________________________
freedomlost2007 ::: Favorites 2007-11-13 12:41:50 invenice. net/content/view/673/32/ I sent this once but it didn't go through. The ex cia people are heavily invested in the nursing hme and ALF industry. The elderly are scammed and no one cares __________________________________________________
