Description: This is 1 of 22 remaining Hawker Sea Furies left flying in the world. It is also one of the only ones still using the original Bristol Centaurus 18A engines. The engine generated 2600HP, and used a unique sleeve valve design. It had a top speed of 464MPH. The Sea Fury came in at the tail end of WW2, and served into the 50's. And while it was considered to be the pinnacle of the propeller driven aircraft, it was soon passed up by jets of the era. This particular Sea Fury is a Mk50 that was purchased by Australia in 1951, and served until 1961. |

TriplePac ::: Favorites Thanx. I flew with him at TWA a few years back & I ran into him at Hollister when I was there for other flying stuff a couple of years ago. In fact I was on a trip with him around the time of the earthquake when he got some parts of it dinged up. Really enjoyed flying with him & appreciate his committment to such a machine. 07-07-27 01:25:49 __________________________________________________ | |

Stuka87 ::: Favorites Its an 18 cylinder radial, most any radial sounds the same. The smoke is normal for startup with the 18C engines. it is also normal for them to start running on just a few cylinders, before they are start firing. 07-06-05 20:19:51 __________________________________________________ |
