ronaldhalabi7 ::: Favorites I just tuned in at this part, part 7. Most people don't know that Hitchens is Jewish. He has a Jewish mother. Might want to remember that when he tries to convince you this isn't about Israel. 07-09-16 10:50:43 __________________________________________________
FilipeBrasAlmeida ::: Favorites Alas subjectivity is bliss, and so is being able to disagree without having to rip each other's head off. 07-09-07 16:25:06 __________________________________________________
FilipeBrasAlmeida ::: Favorites If I can ignore your histrionics, I'll say that I think Hitchens isn't as good as debating as he is writing - where his true strength lies. He did however out-debate Hedges, which is really no compliment when you consider how much stronger and logically sound his initial atheist and non-religious position is than Hedge's. Now in the Harris Hedges debate - yes - there I saw some serious floor mopping of the moderate religious POV. 07-09-07 16:24:56 __________________________________________________
paxdemocratica ::: Favorites 'about the same amount needed to say that a Pulitzer prize winner can't write.' Actually about the same amount to say that a Nobel Peace Prize winner (you know who I mean) was not a man of peace. As you know, Hedges didn't win the PP outright - he was part of several journalists on the NYT team. And if ever there was a politically motivated award (in the wake of 9/11), this was it. 07-09-07 12:26:01 __________________________________________________
paxdemocratica ::: Favorites Hedges makes so many excuses for Islamic violence that it is only possible to conclude that you watched the debate with the sound turned off. But you are wilfully dissimulating now - his apologies for islamists such as Hamas and Hezbollah have been continuing for years. Malign is a term that you ought to be applying, if you had any judgement worth the name, to Hedges' poorly written book review, presumably a reflection of sour grapes that he came off so much worse in the debate with Hitch. 07-09-07 12:14:36 __________________________________________________
FilipeBrasAlmeida ::: Favorites I've seen the debate. For the record, I usually gobble up anything that involves Hitchens, Dawkins, Harris or Hedges as soon as it becomes available. Hedges does survey a different explanation and view, concerning jihadism, but to call any of it «apologetic» requires a good amount of fully intended malice. I suppose, about the same amount needed to say that a Pulitzer prize winner can't write. 07-09-07 09:05:05 __________________________________________________
paxdemocratica ::: Favorites Watch the Hitch-Hedges debate, or the Harris-Hedges debate, which you quite clearly haven't. You'll find excuses for suicide bombings and terror attacks aplenty, and a good dose of religious apologetic for good measure. Hardly a 'slightly different opinion' to Hitchens by any standard. Hitch makes more sense on evangelicals in a few minutes in Video 17 on this site than Hedges in the whole rambling edifice of his American Fascists book. 07-09-07 01:16:38 __________________________________________________
operationmongoose ::: Favorites The entire program is now freely available for viewing at the BookTV site with better audio. Please buy the dvd if you feel so inclined. FilipeBrasAlmeida ::: Favorites «Once Hedges began supporting suicide bombings and providing excuses for jihad, it was time to turn off.» A-ha, but here's the problem. He's done no such thing, regardless of how eager you are to turn everyone who ports a slightly different opinion into an obstacle. 07-09-06 14:53:08 __________________________________________________ |
